Dawg

Dawg is a game based on the cards patented by George Parker of Parker Brothers in 1910. Although his patent expired long before I was born, the cards he designed have been in continuous production ever since 1910 under the Rook® name, now owned by Hasbro.

Any of the many game variations that can be played with Rook® cards can also be play with Dawg cards.

Like Rook® cards, Dawg cards have 4 colored suits. Each suit has 14 numbered cards instead of the 13 cards in each suit of a traditional deck.

Although the suits are typically black, green, red, and yellow, other colors can be used. How about a rainbow colored suit?

In addition to the 4 suits, there is a special Dawg card that's highly prized because it is worth 20 points to the person or team that captures it.
By a family tradition started by my Aunt Laura over 50 years ago, our family considers the Dawg to be between the 10 and 11 of trump. In other words it can capture the 10 of trump but will be captured by the 11.
